It's Big; It's Black; It's Boxy

While I was in college in the small town of Waco (known for the compound incident, although technically, that happened in Central, not Waco, and yes, I did visit the site along with the original Dr. Pepper bottling plant before graduation), two large movie theaters came to town (making the one, miniscule theater with sticky floors--I once lost a flip-flop on those floors--a dollar theater).

I drove to the furthest large, new theater because of one thing: Brad Sherwood. I didn't know he was Brad Sherwood at the time. I knew he had this great comedy act with some guy who played a scientist explaining the surround sound and other brilliant features of the theater. Brad Sherwood played the scientist's nephew who goofed around while smart scientist explained. This little act was in lieu of the cartoon cats slurping sodas and dancing at the Oscars or the "Silence is Golden," which was my original title for this blog post to explain to you why I've been silent and why I most likely will be silent for another couple of weeks.

Also in the act, Brad Sherwood described the big, black box (I don't remember what the big black box functionally did). "It's big," he said. "It's black. It's boxy."

Brilliance!

So all that to say, I will be silent for a little bit longer. (It's like writing lyrics to a song entitled "Speechless.")

For now, I'm going to Disney World!

I went to college up Hwy 6 from you, and a bit before your time. We only had a dollar theater. I love dollar theaters.

Of course now (and maybe at the same time you were there), there is a big new theater (or two perhaps). I don't know if it's the same -- a giant theater -- new sparkly with 15 screens, as compared to a sticky-floored, darkly lit 3 screen building.

I'm not sure what all that has to do with anything. Certainly not the subject of your post. I guess just a little nostalgia.

That's okay. I'm not sure what my post had to do with the post itself.
